SynergEyes Contact Lenses

SynergEyes contact lenses are hybrid contact lenses, or lenses made of both "hard" and "soft" materials. The outer rim of a SynergEyes contact lens (called the "soft skirt") offers all-day comfort and prevents debris from collecting under the lens. The inner area of the lens is rigid yet breathable, promoting eye health while providing clear, crisp vision for wearers with astigmatism, nearsightedness and farsightedness. SynergEyes contact lenses also address less common eye problems such as keratoconus, corneal ecstasia and pellucid marginal degeneration.

How Do SynergEyes Contact Lenses Work?

The rigid center of the lenses utilizes the natural layer of tears existing between the anterior surface of the eyeball lens and the cornea to neutralize blurry vision attributed to astigmatism. All-soft contact lenses cannot provide the kind of high-definition, crystal-clear vision provided by SynergEyes hybrid lenses. Complemented by the ability of the "soft skirt" to stabilize positioning of lenses on the eyes, SynergEyes is also the perfect vision solution for athletes who worry about their contact lenses becoming dislodged during rigorous activity. In addition, wearers of SynergEyes benefit from not dealing with "toric lens rotation",  which causes blurring of vision in wearers of traditional hard or soft contact lenses.

Who are Good Candidates for SynergEyes Contact Lenses?

  • People with corneal refractive errors resulting in nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism or a combination of vision problems
  • Wearers of gas-permeable (hard) contact lenses who want to improve their comfort and vision correction
  • People leading active lifestyles
  • People with certain degenerative eye diseases causing structural changes to the cornea

SynergEyes are Silicone Hydrogel Contact Lenses

Silicone hydrogel contact lenses allow beneficial amounts of oxygen to circulate through the lens and into the cornea, making SynergEyes the perfect choice for those who wear their contacts for long periods. All contact lenses contribute to a condition called hypoxia, or a significant reduction in oxygen supply to various parts of the body. When the cornea cannot access adequate levels of fresh oxygen, corneal swelling, reddened eyes, blurry vision and burning occurs, along with an increased risk of suffering eye infections.

Additional benefits of increased oxygen supply to the cornea include:

  • Higher water retentiveness lets more tear film remain on the eyes instead of being depleted by traditional contact lenses.
  • Reduction of eyelid irritation (itchiness, stinging)
  • Counteracts the ability of adverse conditions to cause eye discomfort (air conditioning, smoky areas, airplane travel)
  • Improves overall eye health

Getting Used to Your New SynergEyes Contact Lenses

Initially, our eye doctor will recommend wearing your SynergEyes contact lenses for no more than six hours for the first four days and then eight hours on day five. If it feels like something is irritating your eyes while wearing SynergEyes contact lenses, always remove, clean and rinse the lens with appropriate solutions. At your follow-up visit, report any issues you may be having with the lenses to us. During this visit, we will evaluate the comfort level and fit of the lenses and examines your vision acuity as well.
