DYSPORT® Skin Care
What Wrinkles Does DYSPORT® treat?
DYSPORT® is an injectable wrinkle releaser similar in chemical composition to Botox that reduces visible frown lines and wrinkles. The primary difference between DYSPORT® and Botox is that DYSPORT® temporarily stops muscle contractions without "freezing" the rest of your facial muscles into unnaturally stiff positions. In addition, DYSPORT® results generally last three to four months longer than Botox, which signficantly reduces the number of "touch-up" injections you need.
DYSPORT® Areas of Treatment
- Deep frown lines between eyebrows
- Horizontal creases and wrinkles across your forehead
- Crow's feet at eye corners
- Fine lines around the lips and neck
Although DYSPORT® can be used to smooth wrinkles in the neck area and lower half of the face, it works best on wrinkling and creasing affecting the top half of the face.
How DYSPORT® Works to Restore Youthful Skin
Facial wrinkles and folds emerge when nerve cells are conditioned to signal muscle contractions. Years of smiling, frowning, squinting and arbitrarily contracting muscles around the eyes, mouth and forehead promotes continual contraction of muscles even when you aren't smiling or frowning.
DYSPORT® contains a safe and effective ingredient called botulinum toxin Type A which prevents nerve signals from reaching muscles, leaving muscles relaxed and unaffected by wrinkle-causing nerve signals. After a short time, facial nerves grow new branches that extend into muscles where only voluntary muscle contractions occur. This leaves your face looking expressive, natural and rejuvenated.
In addition to smoothing away upper facial wrinkles, Dysport® injections can also help reduce the appearance of wrinkles before they emerge. If you are in your 30s or 40s and interested in learning more about wrinkle intervention with Dysport®, contact the Lavenburg Medical Group to schedule a consultation with one of our doctors.
What is Botulinum Toxin Type A?
Although Botulinum Toxin Type A is synthesized from the same type of bacteria that produces botulism, it presents a safe, therapeutic medication when small amounts are used in conjunction with other substances.
In addition to erasing moderate to severe frown lines and crow's feet, Dysport® and other injectables containing Botulinum Toxin Type A may be used to relieve cervical dystonia, hyperhidrosis and unspecified muscle spasms affecting the hands, arms and eyelids.
Botulinum toxin injections such as Dysport® should only be given by experienced professionals to ensure proper administration of the injection into specific muscles and to minimize the risk of complications.
Possible Side Effects of Dysport® Injections
Dysport® has been FDA approved since 2009 and presents an excellent safety record. In fact, Dysport® is only the second injectable approved by the FDA specifically for reducing facial wrinkles.
The most common side effects of Dysport® injections include bruising, stuffy nose, sore throat, irritation at the site of the injection and headache. Pain attributed to the injection is minimal to none since the needle used is very thin.
